Bring water to a boil and pour over shortening, salt and sugar. Add cold milk and when lukewarm, add yeast and let stand a few minutes. Add flour a cup at a time, stirring well each time, adding flour until dough is firm. Allow to rise. When doubled in size, work down. Form into two loaves and place in greased loaf pans. Let rise again. Bake at 350°F until golden brown. Brush with butter while still warm.
