Oklahoma wheat harvest “Start and stop” continues as harvesters move north

June 30, 2025

The Oklahoma wheat harvest has made great strides over the past five days, though progress has been inconsistent due to scattered rain showers. Even when weather was clear, producers often battled high humidity, resulting in short harvest days. Heavy rain last night stalled progress in many parts of north-central Oklahoma along the I-35 corridor, and in the Afton/Miami area of northeast Oklahoma. Several areas in the Panhandle also received moisture, adding to rainfall from the weekend that has kept many producers out of the field.

Despite these setbacks, harvesters made excellent progress across southwest, south-central, central, western and northwest Oklahoma. These regions are now 90 to 95 percent complete, although harvesting continues as a few producers wrap up.

This report includes updates from central, north-central, northeast and Panhandle regions of Oklahoma.

Statewide overview

Test weights have declined slightly in recent days, but the crop has held up remarkably well considering the moisture. The statewide average test weight remains at 59 lbs. per bushel, thanks to heavier weights harvested earlier in the season. Current test weights range from 55 to 60 lbs., depending on variety, environment and location.

Yields are mostly reported between mid-40s to mid-50s bushels per acre, with some lower-yielding fields affected by rain. Intensively managed fields have produced between mid-60s to mid-80s bushels per acre. Protein content has varied widely, from 9.8% to 14.2%, depending on location and practices, with a statewide average of 11.2%.

As of today, the Oklahoma Wheat Commission estimates the harvest is 78% complete.

Note: Some minor sprouting (2–3%) has been reported, but the crop is largely holding up well.
