2025 Oklahoma Wheat Harvest Starts in Southwest and Parts of Central Oklahoma

Monday, June 2, 2025

The 2025 Oklahoma wheat harvest is officially underway in several areas, with multiple locations reporting deliveries over the past weekend. Although harvest is starting about a week later than usual in southwest Oklahoma, earlier-maturing varieties appear ready for cutting — weather and field conditions permitting. All regions mentioned in this report are considered to be just getting a solid start.

*Some test cutting began last week over Memorial Day weekend, but no grain was reported at elevator locations until this past weekend. It appears that a broader region of the state will be ready to harvest once fields become accessible. Producers and elevator operators are increasingly concerned about forecasted rainfall, expected to begin tonight and continue throughout the week.

Early harvest reports from all locations show the following trends:

  • Test weights: Ranging from 58.5 to 64 lbs. per bushel, with most loads coming in at 60 lbs. or higher
  • Protein content: Early samples are averaging between 11.0% and 11.5%
  • Yields: Generally ranging from 25 to 45 bushels per acre, with higher yields (in the mid-50s) reported on intensively managed or smaller fields

It should be noted that several acres in southern Oklahoma originally expected to be harvested will not see a combine. Early county reports indicate up to half of the wheat acreage has been lost due to severe flooding and lodging. Additionally, many producers across the state have opted to cut their wheat for hay, which will affect the state’s overall yield.
